Migration data center, cleaning will improve the reliability of operation

Data center migration as an important IT infrastructure should always be kept clean.
But many carrier users do not pay much attention to the cleanliness of data centers.
This is not to say that the data center industry knows nothing about the benefits of cleaning.
 Data centre migration
"Data center providers have long been aware that the pollutants in the air can damage the IT hardware, and take some protective measures, such as in the server room laid antistatic carpets, the cable on the floor next deployment, etc.
They also realize that cleaning is a good idea for data center security operations.
But even now, many data center operators reduce their frequency of cleaning to a minimum in order to save costs.
Mike Meyer, managing director of data center for data center cleaning services provider ABM Solutions, says that while most people are aware of this, pollutants are still moving into the data center.
While some cleaning solutions can be used to make up for it, some operators still tend to cut costs and are not interested in cleaning data centers.
Small package big problem
So what are the pollutants that affect the data center?
Many small particles (1 micron or 1/400000 inches) may cause servers, storage devices, network equipment to overheat and short-circuit, thus damaging the hardware.
The particles can come from anywhere from a visitor's sole to an air conditioning duct, or the debris of a hangar wall, or the packaging of objects or unsealed dust in a data center.
Clean technology service provider Australia IT service company general manager, said Tim tender in cleaning services often found some dead in data center floor below or activity of insects and other small animals.
Another potentially less common source of harmful particles is zinc whiskers as antistatic agents.
Zinc whiskers are the fluff accumulation of micron-grade zinc elements that grow on the surface of the electroplating metal.
When zinc atoms are separated in iron, they spontaneously grow, separating the coating from the metal surface at a rate of microns per 250 years.
Zinc is a good conductor, so when its whiskers reach 500 microns, they will become a threat to microcircuits, causing hardware short-circuit, voltage change and signal interference.
In most cases, the zinc whisker grows under the more archaic floor of the activity floor. The base is galvanized or electrogalvanized to avoid rust or oxidation.
Although many data centers have removed galvanized floor, but zinc whisker can still in other ways, such as galvanized cable basket, nut, bolt, steel pipe, as well as metal railings, etc.
In the past eight years, the company has completed 30 to 40 cleaning projects for zinc crystals, according to the anti-ballistic missile solutions company.
Recently, a customer report showed that a power failure caused by a metal particle occurred 142 times.
As the data center industry increasingly recognize that zinc whisker and the problems caused by dust, clean the data center has become part of the design process, for example, modular data center are usually good seal, can effectively prevent pollutants from entering the.
However, other factors, such as operating costs and energy efficiency in data centres, can make things worse rather than better.
Data center, for example, using natural cooling through the use of outside air to remove heat, thereby saving electric energy, but this means that the data center is easier to learn from outside particles, for example, sea salt in the air, the dust of the autumn leaves, floating in the air, industrial pollutants and so on.
The anti-ballistic missile solutions company points out that there is a case in which the source of the pollution is unexpected.
A data center in the Netherlands and technical personnel have been the air quality issues in dealing with the data center, but don't know the reason, it was not until later realized that was one of their neighbors are the particles emitted into the air. Meyer said: "this is because the data across the center has a crematorium.
The data center operator has long believed that they have a good filtering effect, which allows fresh air to enter, but the air that is inhaled is polluted.
Mr. Meyer said Microsoft's data center in upstate New York also had something similar, although the problem was not serious.
Microsoft has deployed all the filtering capabilities that might have come to mind, but a fire broke out in the wild around it, and some smoke entered their data centers.
Obviously, this is not a typical pollution, but a result of natural air-cooled technology.
Fortunately, Microsoft has shut down the self-used data center, resulting in little damage and some flexibility and adaptability in its business.
Data center cleaning job involves the ceiling, wall, floor and the floor at the bottom of the purification, mini vacuum cleaner and anti-static wipe it components, cables and equipment, air quality detection process.
However, when cleaning, you need to consider the changes in the airflow in the engine room, otherwise all of this work is meaningless. Meyer says that the dust cleaning will interfere with the original airflow changes.
"The dust is distributed somewhere in the center of the data center," he said. "it's likely to change the dynamics of the airflow when cleaning floors, lower floors and corners."
Because air circulation is used to following the original channel, all it does is rearrange the location of sediment.
Just like the erosion of the river, more water erosion will erode the Banks, which is what happens in the airflow passage.
Clean data center is a procedural process, it requires special cleaning equipment, but also need professional knowledge, such as how to clean room air conditioning, how to properly clean the floor, how to clean DRUPS and UPS power supply line, as well as the need to consider what security issues.
Even the best intentions, clean job sometimes cause more damage, may make things worse, disrupt the airflow, for example, make the room humidity, or when the polished floor cleaners are adopted to decrease the air quality.
Therefore, it would be wrong to ask general contractors for cleaning before delivery of data center facilities, meyer said. "they don't understand the need for clean demand."
He said, "these companies use detergent for cleaning, and think that their clean standard is very high, but if the particle counting machines in testing, there are often found floating in the air with a large number of particles of 0.5 microns."
Dirty little secret
Still, it's hard to say whether the particles and dirt are a major cause of downtime, he said, because the data center industry is generally not publicly available for outages.
, however, the data center hardware manufacturers have adjusted their guidelines and rules on the cleaning of hardware and the standard, and for MEL, this is the evidence of pollutants and is directly related to the data center interrupt: "data center is a very secretive information industry, so even if a failure leads to interrupt, but they rarely propaganda.
People may hear server failures, network service provider outages or network outages, but it all boils down to hardware errors or hardware failures.
Hardware maintenance and maintenance companies have a long way to go in this service chain, and their hardware information can be traced back to hardware manufacturers and OEM.
Today, OEM vendors have published their specs on their websites.
So in terms of specific interruptions, we don't have any exact information, but we know that pollution causes hardware damage and that's a fact."
Fortunately, the data center industry is booming, and the technology cleaning industry is growing along with it.
For gentler, increased market competition means that data center operators pay more attention to keeping their facilities clean.
"Especially in the field of web hosting, they hope to data center to a brand new shiny, because they are looking for more customers, and agency focused on things to the customer, its clean environment is indispensable."
He said.
Maier says data center cleaning is a service that is constantly evolving and improving.
Some small and medium-sized enterprises are reluctant to pay for cleaning data centers, but most data center operators do recognize the need for regular cleaning.
The problem that really impedes the cleanliness of data centers is the lack of cleanliness awareness and enforcement standards.
Hardware manufacturers and customers usually rely on the 8 iso 1464-1 standard for clean rooms and associated controlled environments, which is the classification of air cleanliness.
This is to assess the cleanliness of the data center facility based on the number of specific particles per cubic meter.
In this case, particulate matter measuring 0.5 microns should not exceed 3,520,000 cubic meters per cubic metre.
"So what we are going to do now is to foster markets and education users through research and communication in the data center industry. I think we have achieved some success.
We have been working with end-users and tenants, particularly in the managed data center industry, and actually start to request these services in their service agreement levels (SLA)."
Meyer said.
"We found that the initial market demand was driven by a lot of customers.
Those who don't want to clean the hosting data center staff initially worried, they think it is a kind of unnecessary expensive service, but once we really clean, you will see we provide services to their data center more clean and safe, so no doubt, and begin to accept and welcome."
Clean data center service provider anti-ballistic missile (abm) solutions and IT services company said Australia, hope that through a wide range of employee training plan and market, people will pay more attention to the data center clean.
And the shutdown of the data center due to dirt will be a thing of the past.
