Data center migration is not an easy task, but it is a problem that enterprises must face, because data centers need to merge, transfer, integrate, build and update. There is no doubt that such a task will soon become a new challenge for data center administrators, especially when there is need for ground layouts and other physical needs.
In addition to a very clear plan, such as setting up the training period of the machine, arranging the old equipment to eliminate and the server integration, administrators must also consider the downtime of the application software. Fortunately, the complete cessation of data center services is currently avoidable because of the availability of data center hosting and low hardware prices.
However, the application of software hosting needs to be fully planned, no stage and product requirements can be wrong. Although the core system is converted to the external environment has been greatly reduced, or sometimes administrators have to bite the bullet choice escrow way so as to ensure continuous operation of application software.
Proper planning is the key to the smooth transition of services and devices, and only in this way can the user's work be affected without any impact. Finally, the end of this arduous task of the administrator will require good communication between different IT teams, including engineers and technicians, so that the redeployment task can be successfully completed.
Recently, the CMP path detection center laboratory (CMP Channel Test Center Lab) needs to be migrated. In order to successfully complete the migration, we must create a small plan, which will ensure that only two to three days, the infrastructure can't achieve maximum utilization. The ground design, the supply of power resources, the USP service and the network design have changed when the whole plan is half completed. In order to minimize the downtime during the transfer period, we quickly developed a plan of action. The following are the implementation steps of the plan. The solution providers can formulate similar transfer plans, so that they can avoid the occurrence of problems in the transfer process.
1, coordinate the equipment, electricians and IT staff. From the very beginning, we clearly told every group that we needed to transfer the minimum amount of infrastructure equipment and rack. The new server machine room is smaller than before, so we are faced with the potential space arrangement of the required rack and shelf. We calculated the minimum amount of rack and rack required - both to meet the needs and to be placed in a new machine room.
2, the shutdown but the data center continues to run: on the day of the transfer we put forward an ordinary but very effective action plan. Employees continue to open key network paths when they transfer equipment and components.
3, cooling systems and other systems: there is a neglected content here. Because of design reasons, the CMP Channel Test Center new server room requires less cooling facilities, but the total workload of the data center has not changed. We need to observe and measure carefully. When transferring a data center, you also need to discuss with the electrician the related questions, for example, the maximum power load that the new computer room can get, so as to ensure that the number of future machines can grow, but also make CIO and CEO understand the power bearing capacity of the computer room.
4. Maintenance of data center operation: data migration and guarantee of the operation of core application software are never a big problem. However, according to our experience, the least cost action plan is to decompose the work. In other words, there are two data centers that actually exist during the migration. The VAR that maintains a small data center should be recommended in this way to ensure the continuous operation of the data center. This can be achieved without the need for infrastructure hosting during the migration process.
5, start: not in cannot but under the condition of not breaking the frame and network connection. The less the disconnected connection, the less the cost, and a client can recover more quickly. In order to speed up the migration speed of CMP Channel Test Center, employees try to ensure the connection of the line as far as possible, and attach labels to the disconnected network connections. The result shows that we have saved a lot of time.
6, test, test and retest: do not take care of any small link. Detect network connections, external services and servers, keep in touch with other people involved in migration, and make them responsible for any damage.
The laboratory re awoke us deployment. A lot of small details that are often ignored in a lot of work and device testing show their importance and need to be paid attention to in the migration.
