How to prevent data center power outages

Data center products on the market allow administrators to monitor the load on each circuit. Modern power distribution units (PDUs) have this function, but it is strange that many objects have not been monitored. Even if you're not lucky enough to manage PDUs, which produced more than 30 years ago, without monitoring, you can still measure the power consumption of the data center.

It reminds me of my first data center management at a financial company. In 1979, I finished a summer part-time job at a data center after the end of my freshman year. Responsible for the installation and maintenance of data communication equipment and the use of a Fluke handheld meter to monitor the power consumption of data centers. I need to look at each of the switchboards and read the power consumption of each circuit and record it. Each month I print two reports and hand them over to senior data centers so that they can use this information to predict the growth of power demand. At that time, UPS was expensive. Data centers need to use as little UPS capacity as possible. So we are concerned with devices that use the UPS system rather than non UPS, which is supported by the generator.
If you're not sure you can upgrade your old equipment to a modern PDUs with integrated power load monitoring capabilities, you can choose handheld meters to monitor power trends in the data center. All data centers should have at least two tools that can be used. The circuit should be monitored periodically for use in the calculation of power demand trends. Before you plug in the power supply for new equipment or equipment, you should develop the habit of checking the circuit. This ensures that the circuit does not suffer accidental overloads.
Remember, the power supply capacity for the PDU is usually smaller than the total capacity of all branch circuits. This means that the power supply of the PDU should also be monitored regularly.
As one of my colleagues said, "you're not sure which devices don't need to be monitored."". An appropriate process must be taken to monitor the power consumption trends in the data center. Without these methods, all your work would be blind and trigger a power disaster in a data center.
