Perhaps the biggest trend in current data protection trends is the integration of backup and Disaster Recovery Technology (DR). In fact, many of today's DR products offer time point recovery capabilities and other features traditionally used in backup applications.
Even better, DR providers have been working to significantly reduce recovery point targets, and some have reduced RPO to a few seconds. The popular ransomware has attracted renewed attention from RPO, and from a commercial point of view, it is an obvious advantage to recover data within seconds of the disaster.
Data protection in hybrid cloud
The second trend is vendor independent backup and recovery methods. Hybrid cloud technology is the current popular IT infrastructure.
However, hybrid clouds usually use multi vendor management programs such as Microsoft and VMware, and multiple public clouds. The use of this multi platform makes data protection more challenging than in a single vendor environment.
As a result, this greatly promotes the generation of vendor independent backup and data protection products to a large extent, and provides protection wherever the data is stored.
The role of allocation is greater
In the last few years, backup applications have increasingly taken advantage of snapshot technology. Although snapshots provide undeniable benefits, their use may lead to snapshot spread.
Because of this, the recent data protection trend is to apply the traditional techniques for file data lifecycle management to the snapshot spread problem. By building snapshot lifecycle management policies, the engine can automatically delete obsolete snapshots. Similarly, choreography is also used to create snapshots on a predetermined basis.
